I copied this thread from FSC, so the time-line isn't accurate.[/B]

http://i703.photobucket.com/albums/ww35/dagen_1/100_0778-Copy.jpg

The truck was originally from Hickory, N.C. The original owner moved to Va. just before i bought the truck. The previous owner had installed a fifth-wheel hitch in the bed to pull his 4-banger race car to the local track leaving 8 bolt holes in the bed (which are gone later).

The tired 305 and 400 tranny got rebuilt just over 8k miles before i got the truck. The previous owner was wanting an NBS and decided to sell me the 89.

I used the truck as a work truck the first year i had it. After tinting the windows and installing a Kenwood deck, the Western Chassis 4/6 drop kit was the first real modification done to the truck. DT Nitro Slammers were installed at each corner.

this pic was taken at the shop that put on the 4/6. The tires were 235/75/15 at the time.

My health went downhill some last winter slowing my plans down due to a $17,000 hospital bill. During this time i changed jobs and the truck was no longer a work truck and my car became the new Daily Driver.

Next on the list were a GoodMark Cowl Hood, Street Scene mirriors, 90+ composite lights, clear markers, and clear park lights. I rattle canned the grille to freshen it up even though i had plans for a new grille. I bought a set of Pacer DragStar wheels dirt cheap and threw them on temporarily running 235/60/15 in front and 255/60/15 out back.

Being a tall guy at 6ft 4in, the non-tilt column was a pain. So installing the tilt unit from a 94 was my next move.

Up next was redoing the Air Conditioning System. It's been retro-fitted for the new freon and works very well.

I began to get tired of the stiff DT shocks, and read on here that Impala rear shocks would fit so i gave them a try... the rear shocks are for a 67 impala and ride real smooth compared to the DT shocks.

A couple months ago i started to realize that my budget for getting the truck painted was almost in sight. I pulled the bed and did some cleaning and then got some POR-15 out and got it everywhere (mostly on me...)

http://i703.photobucket.com/albums/ww35/dagen_1/POR/100_1014.jpg

while the bed was off, i flipped it and cleaned it real good, sanded it some and put some rattle can bed liner on the bottom side.

My painter told me he'd knock off $500 if i worked on the inside of the bed. I sanded and sanded blending some scratches on the sides, but stripped the floor and tailgate to the bare metal... and hit it with some self-etching primer.

before (with flip handle opening)

after:
http://i703.photobucket.com/albums/ww35/dagen_1/truck%20bed%20prep/100_1112.jpg

if you look carefully, you'll see the row of holes that held one side of the fifth-wheel hitch. (they get filled later)

I had bought some mid-length headers a while back and wanted to get those on before any paint gets sprayed. The headers were from eBay... the same ones BanannaBrain bought... the gaskets are crap... i bought a set at napa and no leaks so far.

under the hood will get some attention later on...like spring of 2013.

i took the wiper cowl, mirrors, door handles, grille, and bumper off before taking it to the painter... to save on some labor.

the lack of rectifier diodes in my 1157-style led parklights causes the blink pattern to back-load the circuit. The first video shows that the park lights DO NOT completely blink "off" while blinking the turn signal. The second video is hazards..notice the delayed blinking...

disclaimer: the back-loading of the circuit is NOT from danny's LEDs. The problem is from the eBay LEDs in the park lights. I'll grab a video after this weekend with the stock bulbs to show the true blinking pattern.

thanks danny! i love 'em.

I like that tan! I would see what green matches the best i think it would be the first one

dagen_1
10-18-2012, 10:18 AM
i'm guessing the first one (like you guys said) will be the closest match. i don't plan on alot of green for the interior.. just doing some research and trying to finalize a plan. The carpet from LMC is a tad darker tan..which is fine since i don't want the interior TOO matched or monochromatic looking.

Devs93

Something i learned from sewlow on gmt is dark colored carpets in lighter interiors looks :boobs:

i agree... Al and I have had several conversations about picking color(s), matching textures, etc. i think the carpet a few shades darker will make the rest of the colors pop.

I've been sitting here sketching a design for the center console... nothing radical, but far from a rectangular box. i'm thinking tan vinyl on sides (to match seats) with a fiberglass color matched top (sour green). double din dvd in the console, gauges (later on) 6.5" speakers on the sides towards the front, and a hidden rear-facing sub. i'd like the sub exposed, but remember i have two dogs that travel with me and i don't want claws tearing through a cone.

Red91
10-18-2012, 02:20 PM
That center console sounds sick! I bet the light will play a few tricks on that vinyl. I net the first the color will be close but we will see.

rj2
10-18-2012, 07:22 PM
I think the seats should be a 2 tone tan. The light that you have and then the inserts in center of seat the darker color that youll put on the carpet. Then have them stitch it up with the sour green. The stitching. The consol. Maybe a few small trim pieces on dash and maybe a green insert in the door?

thanks for the feedback. i appreciate it. still not 100% locked on my design yet. but i've decided that the seats won't have sour green inserts. i want to avoid "random green areas" and try to pull off subtle green accents. I'll have to do some drawing (since i can't use CAD) and post a pic or two of my ideas. I definitely want double-stitched french seams on the upholstery work.

i hate not having a traditional garage. I do have a carport though. it's that time of year to put up the chrome/aluminum since i don't like cleaning/polishing in cold temperatures. time to rock the steelies.

i had bought these tires a couple years ago when she was my "work truck". Since the TH400 trans. doesn't have over-drive, i stayed with larger tires.

http://i703.photobucket.com/albums/ww35/dagen_1/prepping%20for%20bags/sourgirlatchads_zps64a6aea7.jpg

the details:

front: Ekstensive cups and shock relocators
rear: Nfamus 3-link
bags: Air Lift Dominator 2600 (2B-7)
shocks: toyota 4-runner 2wd front shocks, 86 C10 rear shocks

The truck will be on a temporary air setup until i collect all the parts for air management. (Tee'd in the front and rear with schrader valves)

the air management parts i have so far include:

2 Five gallon AVS tanks (9 ports each) ( i want to add air horns later on)
EDC bracket (thanks Eric)

plan to use:

8 SMC 3/8" valves
York 210 EDC
Hydraulic leader hose (local friend at Napa makes them for air ride applications)
haven't decided on a switch box yet... side to side doesn't interest me. so i'll probably use a 7 switch/rocker setup and omit the side to side feature.

any advice/tips is appreciated...

DONATIONS ALWAYS WELCOME!!

Nice!! Glad to see they are diving right into the project  I've seen too many of these things go where you drop the truck off and it's another month (or more) before they even touch it. This is a good sign!! :party33:

he's built several rides/suspensions that have been featured in magazines... recently took a day job for "paychecks in between paychecks" and insurance.. which is understandable in this economy.

POR-15 (again), i wish i'd pressure washed the frame before i took the truck to Chad.. it's coated (except where the new stuff is)...but just dusty and ending up getting a ton of overspray on it when the body was painted.

Do you wanna sell her dewayne?

I gotcha :waytogo: Between the dust, overspray, and new pieces that were added I couldn't tell you'd done it before :) I love POR-15. I used it on my '77 for everything underneath and it's held up very well for several years now :)

Your truck is one of my favorites. I know theres a lot more radical trucks all over but man. That thing is clean and i love that color. And in response to a post in the chat thread about wheels...20s would be nice 22sand would be better. Either will look great. But please please no matter what size get something with a decent lip on it. That truck would look nasty tucking wheels with a fat lip. And i think some chrome 2sput would set that truck off perfect. It really is one of my favorites ever, can beat an obs with bags. Is that interior stock? Ive looked at pics. On here and facebook but for whatever reason i dont remember

not really an update worth mentioning, but the bed is at a buddy's house who is experienced at body-dropping trucks. i feel better about him raising the floor than myself with the assistance of my painter. i SHOULD have it back on the truck within a couple weeks. some cuts made.. you can see in the header panel two thin black lines marking where the panel will be sectioned to retain the stock appearance. (again, another pic that turns my stomach LOL)

the bedside braces have been extended to compensate for the raised floor (while appearing stock)

i wasn't gonna post of pic of this mod... but decided i would to show why the bed has been taking a long time.... Brandon, the fabricator asked if i would give him some wiggle room for some "artistic expression"... his idea was to incorporate the CHEVROLET letters from an old tail gate into the header panel of the bed. We've all seen this mod done on newer smooth tail gates and even Collin's hood... but Brandon or myself couldn't recall ever seening the graft done INSIDE the bed... so here goes!

the pic is dark, the sheetmetal is raw, bare in mind it needs much more work...

http://i703.photobucket.com/albums/ww35/dagen_1/prepping%20for%20bags%202/970609_484759901608382_870198027_n_zps4028ec23.jpg

small update, here's the frame to support the opening at the rear of the bed. It will also be the mounting point for a flat panel which will be removable so i can access my water traps and manifold.

not much of an update... but progress is progress..

i would have rather had the CHEVROLET graft flush with the header panel.. i guess it will have to do since i'm in a hurry at this point. Maybe it will look nice once it's all bodyworked and smoooooth and repainted.

UPDATE:

i went and hauled the bed home last night. The bodywork was suposed to be finished out (minus paint) but since the guy working on it already had it 3 months, i decided to finish it myself. Here are some pics of it in natural light and some pics of the bottom side and the bracing involved.

http://i703.photobucket.com/albums/ww35/dagen_1/prepping%20for%20bags%202/DSC00507_zpsa0cf8905.jpg

(ignore the chain and straps... still on the trailer.. lol)

http://i703.photobucket.com/albums/ww35/dagen_1/prepping%20for%20bags%202/DSC00503_zps46666adf.jpg

i'll be addressing the underside and front end this evening/tomorrow with some POR and some more paint. THEN i'll set the bed on the truck and start on the inside of the bed... need some primer on it for a show this weekend, then i'll take the bed off after the show and start mounting the air management stuff.

i've POR'd and reapplied spray bedliner to the effected areas to match the uneffected areas. these pics are mid-way through.. it's hard to photograph black in a dark environment :/

i can't hold out ... i SHOULD because the truck is dirty.. but here's a pic of her while adjusting the bed. had to use a couple washers to get the body lines correct..but i'm happy with it considering.
